Tuscany and the regional elections: Giani meets with Schlein: "A productive summit, full agreement."

Florence, 14 July 2025 – A fruitful meeting, marked by a full sharing of the political framework with the secretary Elly Schlein , the members of the national secretariat Igor Taruffi and Marco Furfaro , and the regional secretary Emiliano Fossi , with whom I have worked in close synergy in recent months". This is what the president of the Tuscany Region , Eugenio Giani, declared in a note at the end of a four-hour summit at the Nazareno on the regional elections next autumn.

"I explained the reasons that led me, in recent days, to declare my willingness to run, clarifying to the national and regional leadership every aspect that had generated misunderstandings and given the impression of nonexistent divisions," Giani added. "We are all aware of the delicate nature of this step: building a broad, unified, and credible political project, based on a shared program with parties, movements, and civil society. A project that looks to the future of Tuscany and the country as a whole."

The president points out the "enormous challenges" ahead: "The tariffs announced by Trump are weighing on the Tuscan economy, putting thousands of jobs at risk. The Meloni government's cuts are severely straining public healthcare and welfare, particularly affecting the most vulnerable citizens."

For this reason, Giani says, "we discussed how to create a political proposal worthy of the times we live in, capable of uniting all forces alternative to the right. Every step we take in the coming days will be shared, with the unifying spirit that has always distinguished our work."

The governor has confidence in the Democratic Party at all levels: "I entrust the national secretary and the regional secretary with leading the political process that will lead us to present Tuscany with a project worthy of its history and future. For my part, I will respect its decisions and conclusions, offering my full cooperation in this decisive step."
